Friday's S&P 500 closed 7,811.54, just off Tuesday's 7,818.93 record, with the 10-year at 5.24% and October 28 hike odds still near 17 to 20% after last week's 29,000 payrolls print. September CPI on Wednesday is the last major inflation reading before the October 27-28 FOMC: headline is seen at 3.6% year over year from 3.4%, core at 2.5% from 2.4%, as the Hormuz energy impulse hits the September basket. Q3 earnings open Tuesday with JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, UnitedHealth and Johnson & Johnson, then Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, BlackRock and ASML on Wednesday beside the CPI print. Thursday stacks PPI, retail sales, claims and a Columbus Day-delayed EIA crude report, with Chair Kevin Warsh speaking at the IMF meetings in Bangkok overnight into Friday. Monday is Columbus Day: the Treasury market is shut, equities are open, and Canada and Japan are also on holiday.
